Ideal for instructors and students wishing for more cultural content than that found in a traditional Intermediate / Advanced textbook, SEQUENCES' thematic threads are devoted to mature, interesting topics that intertwine the study of grammar and culture with highly contextualized discussions of specific films and authentic readings. By viewing recent Francophone films, reading reviews of the films, researching related cultural issues on the Internet, and discussing issues raised by the movies, students will discover the many facets of Francophone life, master related vocabulary, and feel confident in their ability to discuss issues raised in or out of the classroom. The flexible nature of the text allows instructors to tailor their course in a variety of ways by varying film selections each semester, using material not covered in class as an additional source of enrichment, or by teaching a very dense or less rigorous course.
The Prononciation module has been expanded in the Préparation à la discussion section of each Cahier chapter.
A new, personalized “Et vous?” section has been added to the text and Student Activities Manual. This section allows students to speak and/or write about themselves while practicing the vocabulary and grammar of the chapter.
Increased visuals in this edition prompt students to re-analyze scenes and themes and to make connections among films.
The Premium Website features the complete textbook and Student Activities Manual audio programs, grammar and vocabulary practice, as well as cultural exploration guides including web links to authentic film critiques, film festivals, and literary sites.
Creative and highly communicative text elements help students evaluate Francophone films and the sociopolitical topics they tackle while remaining focused on the Intermediate / Advanced course's grammatical and vocabulary goals.
The chapter-opening “Entrée en matière” section invites students to observe and discuss the film poster, read a review of the film, and discuss their expectations before viewing the film. This section also includes in-class viewing of the introductory sequence of the film and guided reading and film-viewing exercises in the form of student annotations.
A communicative section (“Discussion”) features a series of questions that allow students to explain the main elements of the film's plot, describe situations in detail, analyze aspects of the film, and express opinions about the film. The objective is to reinforce vocabulary and grammar acquisition and to develop speaking skills. This section includes a plot-based listening section (the second of the two “À l'écoute!” listening sections is available on the audio program).
In “Lecture,” readings from a variety of genres support and expand the themes developed in the chapter's film. These selections are complemented by pre-reading activities (in both the textbook and the workbook), reading comprehension exercises (which integrate review of the vocabulary and grammar of the chapter), and follow-up activities.
A full-color photo gallery (“Arrêt sur image”) features color photos that prompt students to use images to re-analyze scenes and themes and to make connections among films.
